A while ago, Bo-institutet released a report on loneliness among young people. In it, they tell us about how more and more young people feel lonely and unsafe. Compared to the poll they made five years ago, the number of students with feelings of loneliness have gone up by nine %.
It’s clear that the home is the place where most students feel alone – one third of the respondents feel alone in their home. Those living in a student accommodation feel the most alone. They’re also stressed by their living situation.
There are many things which could make things better for the respondents, like lower rent to have money for more social activities, arranged activities for the neighbors and shared social spaces in, or close to, their building.
If you live in a Live to Grow apartment, you probably know that we take several measures against loneliness among our tenants. We want to make it easy for everyone who lives in our buildings to find friends and to feel safe and happy. To make that happen, we offer:
- student ambassadors who live in the buildings
- an app for each accommodation
- parties and social events
- common rooms and lounges
- buddy apartments with separate bedrooms and shared kitchen, living room and bathroom.
When you get a student apartment, you won’t lose your days in the ByggVesta housing queue, meaning you continue to save days from the same level as before even though you got an apartment. This in turn, means you’re more likely to get a “regular” apartment from ByggVesta after school.
“Community is one of the building blocks of Live to Grow. You go through a lot when you move out and maybe even to a new city to study. In that situation, you might miss your loved ones extra. As landlord, we can help by giving our tenants the possibility to get to know their neighbors in a relaxed, safe and nice environment.”
– Marit Appelgren, ByggVesta
