Walking in to a room full of people you don’t know can be a little overwhelming. Here are three tips on how to make conversation starting a little easier:
Give compliments “Wow, I really like your shoes/bag/watch/costume!” Giving a compliment is a winner when it comes to starting a conversation with a stranger or someone you don’t know too well. Quite often, people have a story to tell about the piece which you complimented them on. If the person has made a performance during the party, “I really liked your presentation/singing/…” are equally as good.
Choose a neutral subject We really couldn’t make a list on conversation tips without mentioning talking about the weather, could we? Neutral subjects which everyone in the group can relate to are great conversation starters. Other things to talk about than the lack of snow might be the party decorations or snacks. Remember to say it with a smile.
Come prepared If you often feel uncomfortable at parties or mingles, this is key. Read up on resent events, new buildings, popular tv shows etc. That way, you’ve got a library of subjects to talk about and you won’t have to feel so nervous.
Hope you find these tips helpful! Happy partying!
